Autumn News Update

It’s been a busy few months in the tax and business world so we thought the best way to summarise some of these changes is by way of a Newsletter which can be downloaded from the link below

Cyber Security - IMPORTANT!

“Have you had an accident that wasn’t your fault?”.

You’ve probably seen one of these adverts. ‘Ambulance chasing’ firms of solicitors offering no-win no fee opportunities to sue someone for something. The latest iteration of this seems to be solicitors offering to sue someone if there has been a data breach involving you. This may seem something that could not affect you but under the General Data Protection Regulations (“GDPR”) you are under a legal information to protect personal information held on your staff and clients.

You may have a database with hundreds or thousands of names on it and with the ‘going rate’ seeming to be a claim of £2,000 - £3,000 for compensation per individual if this data is not protected this could lead to serious consequences.

One of our clients recently suffered a serious ‘hack’ where a database with details of many thousands of customers was stolen and published on-line. The number of claims makes this a potentially ruinous situation. A number of lessons arise:

  • Is your cyber-security up to date?

  • Do you have insurance which could cover the costs if a claim were to arise?

  • If your company is ‘asset rich’ should you consider a holding company structure to protect these assets?

If you need to discuss any issues arising from this, do get in touch.

2020-21 Self Assessment Tax returns

Yes, it’s that time of year again. The filing deadline of 31st January 2022 creeps ever closer so do think about pulling together the information we will need to complete your tax return.

And Finally

Well done. All of you. No, really, the last 18 months have been challenging to say the least and the challenges are set to continue in the current uncertain economic climate. During this time we at Continuum have been amazed at the resilience and determination of our clients to keep going and overcome these challenges. If you want to come into our offices, we ‘d be happy to pat you on the back - you deserve it. If you can’t make it in, give yourself one.
