Autumn Newsletter

It is perhaps not a coincidence that the forthcoming Budget is the day before Halloween. Certainly all sorts of horrors have been predicted but these are just predictions so until the actual day, it is difficult to advise clients what they might do. It may not be as bad as feared in which case pre-emptive steps made in anticipation of a worst-case scenario may do more harm than good.

Certainly we are in turbulent times and the media is filled with all sorts of ideas and ‘solutions’ which no matter how unworkable or counter-productive they would be in reality, seem to gain support. I am reminded of a quote from Charles MacKay’s wonderful “Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds” first published in 1841 but still containing relevance today;

“During seasons of great pestilence men have often believed the prophecies of crazed fanatics, that the end of the world was come. Credulity is always greatest in times of calamity. Prophecies of all sorts are rife on such occasions, and are readily believed, whether for good or evil.”

So let’s see what 30th October actually brings and react then. Meanwhile life goes on and our Autumn Newsletter discusses (in a non-crazed non-fanatical way) what we know is happening . The Newsletter can be downloaded using the link below

We have moved

For those not yet in the know, Continuum Limited has moved and we are currently in temporary accommodation at Basepoint Business Centre in Winnall. Those clients who have been with us a while may remember that this is where we were some five years ago. Our departure from Cromwell House was at somewhat shorter notice than we would have liked and we are in Basepoint until what we hope will become our new permanent home is acquired. Anyone who has ever moved house knows that these things never proceed as planned, so ‘watch this space’ and we will keep you updated. With agreement from our previous landlord, Cromwell House remains our (and clients’) Registered Office and post is being forwarded from there to us at basepoint so it is business as usual!
